Therigathapali - Book of Verses of Elder Bhikkhunis: A Contemporary Translation.
Therigatha has a total of 524 verses, uttered by 73 elder bhikkhunis, many of them have similar names and in two cases it's a group of elder bhikkhunis. Many of these elders bhikkhunis have biographies in the Apadana (Theriapadana Pali) as well.
The Pali Canon is divided into three collectons or baskets, namely Vinaya Pitaka, Sutta Pitaka, Abhidhamma pitaka. Sutta Pitaka deals with the suttas or discouses preached by the Buddha and his eminent disciples. Sutta Pitaka is further divided into five Nikayas, namely Digha Nikaya, Majjhima Nikaya, Samyutta Nikaya, Anguttara Nikaya and Khuddaka Nikaya. The Khuddaka Nikaya or Collection of Minor Discourses contains a number of books including Therigatha, the subject of this translation.
