The Development of the Tathāgatagarbha in the Early Mahāyāna Buddhism

The tathāgatagarbha in early Mahāyāna Buddhism along with the arising of the Mahāyāna doctrine, was one of the major doctrines of the Mahāyāna. There are many sūtra-s and Mahāyāna śāstra-s which were produced and developed in India that based on the tathāgatagarbha literature, such as the Tathāgatagarbha-sūtra, Aṅgulimālika-sūtra, Śrīmālā-sūtra Laṅkāvatāra-sūtra (Lkt.), Ghana-vyūha-sūtra, almost of them were translated into Chinese.

Upāsaka Precepts: Recipe to Build a Compassionate Society

The goal of this independent study research project is to illustrate that the Upāsaka (lay person) Precepts are the perfect recipe with which to build a compassionate society. Through an examination of Early Buddhist writings, Buddhist cosmology, current events, and specific examples, this study will show how the application of these five fundamental precepts can solve or prevent the negative aspects found in most cultures around the world today.

大乘佛教人文观之探析

摘 要

本文立于人文观的视角，分析阐释了人文观内涵及其定义，并将大乘佛教与小乘佛教；大乘佛教与中国文化；大乘佛教与西方人文主义三者展开了比较论述，比较的目的是为发现和彰明大乘佛教人文观及其内涵与被比对象的人文观及其内涵，从而展示大乘佛教人文观所具有的根本的教育与指导的功能，能与其它一切文化的人文观融合，并对其它人文观能予以启发与指教作用。最后章节对大乘佛教人文观的觉悟与析理过程，确认并确立了大乘佛教人文观为根本的人文观，为其它人文观之导师的结论。受人文观内涵与定义的启发，本文在论述的同时，提出了独到的对有关词汇之精确定义，尤其是对于文化、文明的新颖确切之定义。特别是受大乘佛教人文观的启示，对于文化与文明本质的认识与本质定义，对当今人们对于文化一词的滥用能起到正名的作用；对当今学术界对于文化一词的不同定义与纷争，能起到提示作用；对有识之士对于文化重建的思考，也能发挥其根本的导向作用。
